A standard of Oregon's economy, the resource tourism industry in our great state is staffed by some of the most selfless and multi-talented individuals I have ever met. In return the young men and women that work to serve Oregon's citizens and her many visitors are met with less than minimum wage pay and a corporate culture that quite obviously states that you are easily and quickly replaceable.
Beginning in March, I will be conducting a series of studies & interviews throughout the Oregon tourism industry to give a clear picture of the true state of this important industry. This industry does more than help us to recreate, but defines our culture to visitors from around the world. Mt. Hood & Timberline Lodge are two of the most prominent and recognizable icons of Oregon, and are currently being run by corporations that do not create livable conditions for their workers.
I find this to be an unacceptable state of affairs in our great state, and these studies and interviews will serve as a platform for change, the knowledge needed to step into a new age of cooperative affairs in the Oregon tourism industry.
